Description

Fragrant flowers are edible and excellent for crafts

Days to Maturity: 70 to 98

A Viola cornuta, commonly called horned violet or tufted violet, Sorbet® Tiger Eye Viola is a perennial, often grown as an annual, offering spring, autumn, and winter (regional) interest. A cheerful garden addition, abundant, pansy-like, yellow flowers have unusual stripes and attract bees and butterflies. The fragrant flowers are edible and make excellent pressed flowers for crafts.

Sorbet® Tiger Eye Viola has a low, bushy, mounding habit of evergreen leaves that spreads by creeping stems. Shown to best effect when mass planted, Sorbet® Tiger Eye Viola is an especially nice companion for spring-flowering bulbs. It is suitable for rock gardens and a nice size for border fronts, containers, and window boxes. Once established, this violet makes an effective groundcover.

A low maintenance garden favorite for generations, viola prefer full to part shade and fertile, humus-rich, evenly moist, well-drained soils. Cold hardy to -10°F, Sorbet® Tiger Eye is shade and frost tolerant and deer and black walnut resistant.

Viola seeds can be started indoors 8 to 10 weeks before the last frost date and transplanted into the garden in early spring. If you plan to start your seeds indoors, be sure to check out our Bio Dome Seed Starter Kit. With the Bio Dome, you can control the temperature, light, and soil mix to ensure your seeds become strong for transplant.
