Description

Highly aromatic, spreading plant is a garden joy

Days to Maturity: 70 to 90

Sweetly aromatic spearmint can be used in both cooking—in the well-known mint jelly and sauces—and in potpourri and other fragrant decorative items.

This perennial grows to 3 feet tall and spreads rapidly to indefinite widths. The 2- to 3½-inch lance-shaped leaves are a unique wrinkled texture. Oblong terminal spikes of lilac-pink to white flowers appear all summer.

Like other mints, spearmint is extremely easy to grow. In fact, it grows so well, it is best to confine it to containers. Grow in almost any soil conditions in sun or part shade, harvesting leaves all season long.

Great germination

This shopper rated the product 5 out of 5 stars

I was worried when I read some of the reviews on peppermint, however spearmint worked really well for me. The seed packet was one I'd purchased from Park Seed about 2 years ago and had been in climate controlled storage, so I wasn't sure what my chance of success would be. I used a seed starter kit for the AeroGarden Sprout LED. The seeds were really tiny and hard to work with, but I tried to get 4 seeds to a seed starter plug. From 15 plugs I had 14 plugs with at least 1 seed sprouted, some had all 4 seeds sprouted.. The earliest sprout emerged on day 7, with the 14th plug waiting until day 19. I've now begun transplanting the larger seedlings into potting soil. Looking forward to harvest time to quality test the flavor of this spearmint.
