Description

Soft vintage colors

A multicolored display of blooms from a single packet of seeds. Strawberry Blonde is the most unusually colored French Marigold we have ever grown, and we're delighted to make it available to you this season. These flowers are fully double, and they arise in seldom-seen shades from peach and melon to coral, salmon, and even a near-pink. With some vintage-toned yellows and oranges thrown in for contrast, this is a one-of-a-kind color show you're going to love.

Most marigolds vie for the brightest shade of primary red, citrus orange, and radiant red, but Strawberry Blonde takes a different approach altogether. These hues are beautifully muted, and simply not seen elsewhere in the Marigold family. We think you are going to get a lot of admiring comments along the lines of, "Those look like Marigolds, but . . . " (Your choice whether to tell the truth or invent a rare and choice new species.)

And this plant is compact enough to pop into a patio container or march up the front steps in terracotta pots. Just 8 to 10 inches high and wide, it packs a lot of flowering stems and soft color into very little space. And it's every bit as productive as other varieties, setting new buds and blooms continuously for months.

Keep Strawberry Blonde deadheaded for faster rebloom, and enjoy the great variety and exceptionally soft, vibrant colors in this mix. You might want to sow the seeds every few weeks in spring and early summer, just to keep the season going a bit longer.

As a French Marigold, Strawberry Blonde is valuable in the tomato patch, too. Marigolds kill nematodes, which are soil-borne pests that can destroy your tomato plants. So try growing a few plants around your tomatoes, peppers, and other summer veggies. They will thank you for it.

Marigold is best direct sown in the warm spring soil, after all danger of frost is past. However, sometimes we just can't resist starting it indoors for even quicker blooms. In that case, the 40- or even 18-cell Bio Dome is a good choice for these long, slender seeds.

Strawberry Blonde loves sunshine and good soil drainage, and needs to be well watered and fed for best blooming. It will reward your attention with unforgettable color.
