Antirrhinum Germination Information
Antirrhinum is the botanical name for Snapdragon
How to Sow Antirrhinum: - Best sown indoors, 6-8 weeks before planting out, at a temperature of 68-70°; with no cover as light aids in germination
- Expect germination in 10-12 days
- Seeds can also be sown outdoors after all danger of frost is past and when the soil is warm
- When sowing seed outdoors, we recommend a maximum planting depth of 4X the width of the seed
How to Grow Antirrhinum: Spacing: Space 6-8 inches apart in full sun
Temperature: In Zones 7 and warmer, plant out in the fall for a spring flower display. In colder zones, plant out after all danger of frost is past in the spring
Soil: Site in a light, sandy, rich, well-drained soil. Keep moderately moist and feed monthly
Greenhouse growing: For forcing in the greenhouse: keep cool, site in full sun, and allow to dry out between waterings
Appearance and Use: This showy annual is useful tucked into borders and when planted in
mass as a bedding plant. The flowers cut well for fresh use. It grows 1/2 -3 feet tall by 1/2- 2 feet wide
and in cool climates it flowers from summer to fall; in Zones 7 and warmer, expect a display only in
the spring. Flowers are 1-2 inch, two-lipped curiosities that resemble what can best be imagined as
a “dragon’s jaw.” They come in a wide range of colors (excluding blue and green) and are either
solid or bicolored
