Coronilla Germination Information
Coronilla is the botanical name for Crown Vetch
How to Sow Coronilla: - In spring, direct sow in large areas at the rate of 1 lb. per 1,000 sq. ft. with an equal amount of annual ryegrass which holds the soil until the crown vetch becomes established
- Indoors, cover the seeds with four times its thickness in soil and maintain a temperature of 70-75° F during germination which takes 30 days
- Germination time can be cut in half by nicking the seeds’ hard coats or soaking in water before sowing
- When sowing seed outdoors, we recommend a maximum planting depth of 4X the width of the seed
How to Grow Coronilla: Spacing: Thin or plant 6-18 inches apart in any soil (slightly alkaline is preferred)
Lighting: Plants thrive in full sun or light shade, but will tolerate shade
Additional Care: Crown Vetch grows slowly the first year, but will grow more rapidly once established. For best results, mulch hay or straw after planting. Tolerant of drought, wind, exposure, and poor soil
Appearance and Use: This perennial ground cover is excellent for naturalized areas or for covering bare banks and slopes. It reaches 15-24 inches tall and spreads up to 3 feet in 3 years. Crown-shaped, 1/2- inch blooms of pink are borne from June till frost against a backdrop of compound, rich green foliage
