Stokesia Seed Germination How to Sow Stokesia:
  • Best sown indoors at 65-75°
  • Seeds will germinate in 25-30 days and plants will produce flowers in the first year if started early enough
  • Seeds can also be sown outdoors in spring or summer, up to two months before first frost
  • When sowing seed outdoors, we recommend a maximum planting depth of 4X the width of the seed

How to Grow Stokesia:
Transplanting: Transplant when there are at least two sets of true leaves

Spacing: Space 12-15 inches apart in full sun

Soil: Site in an acidic, average, well-drained soil

Additional Care: Fertilize in the spring and deadhead to prolong the flowering season. Plants are very tolerant of heat and humidity

Appearance and Use:

A vigorous and floriferous perennial to be situated in borders and harvested for fresh cut flower use. It is a rosette-forming plant that grows 12-18 inches tall by 18 inches wide. The leaves are 2-8 inches long, slender, pointed, and gray-green. On stiff, erect stems, the 4 inch diameter, aster-like, fringed flower heads appear from July to September. They come in colors of blue, white, pink, purple, or yellow
