Fragrant Blooms and Glorious Striped Foliage!

Native adaptability and multiseason beauty make this Tiarella a treasure for the partly shaded garden!

'Sugar and Spice' is such a pleasure. Low-growing and compact, it offers large, handsome leaves of pale green in spring, with scalloped edges and a nicely layered habit. This plant reaches just 8 inches high and a few inches wider, except in summer when it is topped by tall, thin, sturdy stems of mahogany brown, each sporting a cluster of pink-and-white bells! The flowers are fragrant and remain for weeks, bringing butterflies on the wing!

But the blooms are only part of summer's joys for 'Sugar and Spice'. The pale green leaves begin acquiring brown stripes as the weather warms up! Chocolate to burgundy, the markings stand out boldly from every other plant in the partly shaded border or patio container garden! And they remain into fall, going into winter in warmer climates!

Give this perennial morning sun, continuous dappled sunlight, or even full shade. Vigorous and easy, it fends off pests, withstands heat and drought, and can be divided every few years into several new plants. What could be easier or more lovely?! Zones 4-9.

Great sun/shade woodland solution - vigorous bloomer!

Zone 7a - Started with 6 plants last year to test, and grabbed 20 more this year. Tiarella’s Foam flowers look wonderful planted in the border, and the distinctive leaf shape and color are eye catching year round. Only one failed to come back this spring but other plants have started spreading. Looking great!
