Description

Cold Hardy to Zone 3

Thuja Cheer Drops™ is an evergreen tree offering year-round interest. An intriguing new cultivar, the plant has highly textured flattened sprays of bright green foliage and maintains a natural teardrop form that requires no shaping.

Cheer Drops™, a Thuja occidentalis, commonly known as American arborvitae and northern or eastern white cedar, is a woody plant with a dense, upright, ovate habit and a slow growth rate. It adds an architectural element to hedges, foundation plantings, mixed beds, and borders. It also works well as the thriller (focal point) in a container garden and makes excellent screening.

Easy to grow and maintain, Thuja Cheer Drops™ prefers full to part sun and moist, well-drained loams. It tolerates a wide range of soils but is intolerant of dry conditions. Although little to no pruning is required, any desired pruning should be done in late spring to early summer after the new growth has emerged. Cutting into thick stems can leave unsightly scars and recovery is typically slow.
