Description

Let it trail or make it climb

Hot tropical color all over compact, very versatile plants transforms the garden or container into a summer paradise. Hot Pink is the newest arrival in the award-winning Tidal Wave series of trailing petunias—but like AAS winner Silver, it does far more than simply trail. Amazingly versatile, this petunia is called a "hedgiflora"—but we just call it "wonderful".

The blooms range from 2 to 2½ inches across, and boast some of the brightest, richest pink tones ever seen on a petunia—which is saying a lot, if you think about some of the competition. These blooms won't keel over at the first sign of trouble, either—they stand up to summer storms beautifully, bouncing back from rain and wind without turning a petal. Expect a long summer season of bloom in the sunny yard or patio.

The plant itself is as much of a star as its flowers, offering an adaptable habit completely unlike other petunias'. Spaced closely together, the plants form an upright mound or even a low hedge, drenched with silvery blooms and utterly charming.

Set against a trellis and given a little help to get started, Hot Pink forms a floriferous climber. Widely spaced in bed or border, it creeps along as a lovely ground cover. And then there's its "traditional" use as a trailing petunia in baskets, planters, and other containers.

We predict that this super-easy, beautiful plant will be the spreading petunia of choice for gardeners looking for something a little distinctive in the garden. It is superbly Botrytis-resistant (which is enough to convince us, even without any other merits, that we want it in our garden) and very long-blooming. In short, a highly adaptable, vigorous, gorgeous petunia you really should try. Plant in full sun, feed and water it well all season, and you will be rewarded with masses upon masses of tropical-bright blooms.

This seed comes as a "pellet". "Pelleted" seeds are small seeds that have been clay-coated to make them larger and more uniform in size and shape, making them easier to handle when planting.

good germination

This shopper rated the product 5 out of 5 stars

I haven't planted these outside, and they are only a few weeks old. 9/10 seeds germinated. I figure if I have issues past that it will probably be user error. I'm hoping I can help these little beauties thrive. I LOVE wave petunias!

Gorgeous color!!! Not a trailing petunia. :(

This shopper rated the product 4 out of 5 stars

I wish I could attach a photo of these flowers I grew in our window boxes. The flower stems are VERY thick and stiff and never trailed over the edge to cover the brown, coconut fiber container - my whole reason for buying a trailing petunia. (Having the fiber showing all summer was not very pretty.) They grew 20-24", growing UP the side of the house on that side of the window box and sticking OUT over the container edge on the street view side, but never drooping like in the photo on this site. Germination was terrific, even though I made the mistake of covering the pelleted seeds with a thin layer of planting medium. The flower color was absolutely show stopping and the plants were very healthy, bouncing back beautifully after more than one hail storm. However, I was very, very disappointed when they didn't trail as pictured. After seeing what actually grew and reading more carefully on this and other sites, I understood this is called a “hedgiflora.” (I should have caught the “hedge” part.) I ordered more petunia seeds from Park Seed for this year, but I was very careful in reading what I was getting and not going so much by the photo. The color of the Tidal Wave Hot Pink is fabulous. The best pink I’ve seen, for my taste. A bright, "tropical" color as described on this site. Would make a really wonderful ground cover. Four stars because it really didn't trail.

True Rambler of a Petunia!

This shopper rated the product 5 out of 5 stars

This petunia variety branches out and spreads far filling in huge garden areas! It will climb up a trellis, fence or support if it is given a guided start. Very bright pink blossoms, though not a big as some other petunia varieties. I have grown strictly in my gardens and not in containers. With it's rambling and far spreading habit if you were to grow in a contain I suggest a large one and grow as a sole specimen. This is one I grow every year and will continue to grow in years to come.

Great quality

This shopper rated the product 5 out of 5 stars

I have found their seeds to be a little more expensive than some but of good quality. I have had particularly good success using their bio-sponges as a starting medium for my seeds.
