A Proven Winners® ColorChoice® Flowering Shrubs variety, Weigela Midnight Sun™ is a small deciduous shrub offering spring through fall interest, blooming in pink flowers late spring to early summer. Midnight Sun is grown primarily for its glossy, blazing orange and red summer through autumn foliage.
An excellent landscape plant, Midnight Sun has a neat and tidy bun shape and functions like coleus but doesn't need to be replanted every year. It is an excellent specimen in garden or container but is shown to best effect when grouped or massed and is especially nice in the front of beds and borders.
Cold hardy to Zone 4 and easy to grow, weigela grows best in sunny to partly shady locations with moderately fertile, moist, well-draining soil but tolerates clay soil. Deer resistant.
