Wizard® Scarlet Coleus is a tropical evergreen tender perennial, typically grown as an annual, offering late spring through autumn interest. Grown for its vibrant, colorful foliage, Coleus Wizard Scarlet has mid-sized scarlet leaves with lemon yellow edges. Late-flowering, the plants produce small, nettle-like flowers, summer to early fall. However, the flowers are not particularly attractive and are typically removed to conserve energy, so the gorgeous foliage will last longer.
Uniform and basal-branching, Wizard Scarlet has a compact, upright, mounded habit and fast growth rate. Seedlings never need pinching, since the plants are naturally bushy and grow close to the ground. Shown to best effect when grouped or massed, coleus makes beautiful border edging and is great filler for a container garden, outdoors or indoors.
Wizard Scarlet Coleus is easy to grow and low maintenance, growing best in shady to partially sunny locations with organically rich, loose, moist, well-draining soil, having a neutral to acidic pH between 6 to 7. It tolerates heat and heavy shade, but best leaf color occurs with some morning sun. Deer tend to leave coleus alone.
