Description

Very productive vines are tolerant of powdery mildew

Days to Maturity: 100 from direct sow; 86 from transplant

A trusted favorite for many years, Ambrosia lives up to its name with luscious salmon-red flesh and a juicy, tender, extra-sweet flavor that simply melts in the mouth. The melons produce very small seed cavities, saving the extra space for more delectable flesh. And they arise very abundantly on vigorous vines with great tolerance of powdery mildew. A reliable favorite that will turn you away from store-bought cantaloupes forever.

Sow seeds directly in the garden after the soil is thoroughly warm or, for an even earlier harvest, start them indoors in pots. Set out 18 inches apart with 4 feet between each row, or plant in hills 4 feet apart, with 2 to 3 plants per hill. Cantaloupes are ready to harvest when the stem slips easily from the fruit with slight pressure. Mature fruits are 3 to 5 pounds.

Best

This is the best tasting I've ever tasted. One pack of seeds and I had cantelopes by the bushels!

Still growing them

This shopper rated the product 5 out of 5 stars

I grew these in South Carolina and then moved to Washington State. I've tried several varieties here, and although they were successful, I missed the flavor and texture of the ambrosias. Two years ago I started growing them in my greenhouse and found the melons to be very close to the ones I grew in South Carolina. They remain a favorite, and I can't have a summer without them. The texture is almost like a firm peach and the flavor is sweet and "floral".

Rich and tasty as can be

Very sweet and tender. Just the way I like them. I planted this Ambrosia cantaloupe last year and am ordering more seeds for this year.

Good melon--one complaint

This shopper rated the product 5 out of 5 stars

Only melon to plant as to taste, texture, etc. My complaint is with the germination rate. We got only 67% germination and think it is because of the immaturity of the seeds. Hopefully this was a one-season problem because it is our favorite cantaloupe and we are ordering again.
