FAQs
Are African Daisies Hard to Grow From Seed?
African daisies are surprisingly easy to grow from seed. Start them indoors 6–8 weeks before your last frost, or sow directly in the garden after the danger of frost has passed. Use a light seed-starting mix and barely cover the seeds, sunlight helps with germination. Keep the soil slightly moist and warm (70°F is ideal). If you're a beginner, consider using Bio Domes to help make seed starting even easier.
Do African Daisies Come Back Every Year?
African daisies are considered tender perennials in warm climates. In Zones 9–11, they may survive and bloom again next year. But in colder areas, they’re grown as annuals. If you want blooms year after year, you can collect seeds in the fall and plant them again next spring. Or try perennial flower options if you're looking for low-maintenance color.
Do You Need to Soak African Daisy Seeds?
No soaking is needed for African daisy seeds. These seeds don’t have a hard coat, so they sprout fine without soaking. Just sow them on moist soil and lightly press them in. A heat mat can help speed up germination by keeping the soil warm. If you're planting outdoors, pick a sunny, well-drained spot and wait for warm spring days.
How Many African Daisy Seeds Should You Plant Per Hole?
Plant 1–2 seeds per hole to start. If both sprout, you can thin them later, keeping the strongest seedling. Spacing is key, leave about 8–12 inches between plants to give them room to grow and bloom. You’ll have a full, colorful display without overcrowding.
