Description

Continuous harvests from this French climber

Days to Maturity: 80 from direct sow

This pole bean stands out from all others the moment it opens its first flowers. Violet-purple and very showy, they add beauty to the veggie patch . . . and then they're followed by a long, long, season of delectable beans.

Cobra is a French climbing type with straight, stringless, round pods reaching 7 inches long. (Actually, they will grow longer than that, but pick them at 7 inches for best flavor and to encourage another fruit set.) The flavor is tender, sweet, and utterly addictive. And that's good, because you're going to have plenty to eat fresh, as well as have some for winter.

Expect this pole bean to reach 5 to 6 feet high. It's a great choice for a Three Sisters planting, and makes a nice addition to the flowering annual bed as well as the vegetable garden. Give it something sturdy to climb and get ready to start picking.

Direct sow the seeds into the warm spring soil after all danger of frost has passed, setting the seeds about 2 inches below the soil line and covering well. (Be sure to plant extra for the birds—they will take their share whether you want them to or not.) Thin the seedlings to 6 to 8 inches apart, and begin training them up a pole or other support from a young age. If picked promptly, the crop should continue through fall, until nipped back by cold weather.

Pkt is 2 oz. (approx. 150 seeds)

tasty beans

I love these beans, I buy them every year. They are not stringy, they taste good, and are prolific producers.

Great beans!

This shopper rated the product 5 out of 5 stars

I love this bean - flavor, productivity, quality of the beans, ease of picking. I had been disappointed in other, standard, beans that seemed to develop strings if not picked at the perfect time. These beans stay tender and flavorful on the vine for several days. I freeze mine, as well as eating them fresh, and they are great for freezing.

Bean - a - rific!

This shopper rated the product 5 out of 5 stars

Due to heavy clay soil here in northern Wisconsin, we grow everything in raised beds. Our springs are totally unpredictable - snow in May or 80+ degree days. The summer of 2021 was a challenge but the Cobra beans performed beautifully - wonderful germination and steady growth as they climbed the wire supports. Taste was excellent and daily picking meant for a very long supply - well into late September (for us a miracle!) For all those reasons, I have ordered more for 2022. Thank you Park Seed for offering this variety.

best green bean

This shopper rated the product 5 out of 5 stars

This is the third year I've grown Cobra beans. I would not waste my time or the space on any other. Unfortunately this year groundhogs, despite my fence, discovered them and I will be having very few beans this summer. The plants continued to try to produce, still find regrowth. The twenty or so beans we had were delicious as expected.

Best beans ever!

This shopper rated the product 5 out of 5 stars

I have grown Cobra beans for years, so happy Park had them after my local source didn't get them anymore. Zone 5, produces for months. Freeze beautifully, taste great fresh. Will never grow any other variety
