Description / Park's Whopper CR Improved Hybrid Tomato Seeds

Days to Maturity: 65 from transplant

Indeterminate

The original Whopper was an American classic, and its successor is simply the home gardener's dream tomato: greater disease resistance, higher yields, a longer season, and better taste.

These big, juicy, crack-resistant tomatoes, 4 inches or more across, ripen uniformly (even when the weather is overcast) and finish 5 days sooner than the old Whopper. Then they keep right on coming in huge quantities until frost—none of your smaller, greener end-of-season fruits here.

And because they're meatier, you get even more succulent tomato flavor in every slice. Park's Whopper has been a taste test favorite for many years, and you will love the rich, succulent bite you get from every fruit.

Resistant to verticillium wilt, root-knot nematodes, tobacco mosaic virus, and 2 strains of Fusarium wilt, Park's Whopper is a great choice for beginning gardeners and seasoned pros alike. Find out what all the fuss is about—grow the tomato that American gardeners have been in love with for decades.

Start seeds indoors 5 to 6 weeks before the last frost date. Plant outdoors when danger of frost is past and night temperatures consistently remain above 55°F. If an unexpected late frost is forecasted, protect young plants with plastic sheeting or other cover. Set plants 2 to 2½ feet apart.

Good success annually with this variety 7 people found this helpful

For several years I have grown this particular variety from seed and have always been pleased with the results. Excellent yield, stands up to heat in this rapidly warming world, and minimal cracking. Prune and fertilize and don't overwater and you should also be pleased with the outcome.

This tomato used to be very tasty. It seems like it's lost its flavor. So disappointing. Used to be tasty and productive.

    Response from store

Thank you for your feedback! We’re sorry to hear the flavor wasn’t what you expected this time. Your input is important to us, and we’ll be sure to share it with our team.

Selected this hybrid as a live plant from a big box retailer a couple years ago. Best tomatoes I've ever grown. Assumed I could buy the same plants the following year, but couldn't find it anywhere. Had to settle for something else. Bad idea! Decided to get seeds direct from Park Seeds and not take any chances this year. 100% seed germination...can't wait to get these in the ground.

Received my seeds in a timely matter and immediately planted them. In just a few days the plants emerged and I was so delighted that every seed produced very. The germination rate was outstanding. The best I have seen in over 50 years of gardening. Thank you so much Park Seeds.

I had the most amazing tomato production this past summer of the forty years I have been raising them! I made sauce, salsa, capresse salads on the daily and gave away bushels of these gems. The plants just kept on producing and they were uniform and tasty. I always come back to growing Park Seeds Whopper Tomato, it can’t be beat for yield, flavor and vigor!

I’ve been planting these for about twenty years after trying many types. They are exactly what is advertised - simply great all around tomatoes. Heavy long lasting productivity, great flavor, strong vines. We also plant other types: cherries, paste, but these are the main ones that never disappoint.

After always growing heirlooms I tried these for the first time. I had more than I new what to do with and my plants lasted much longer too. Better, bigger, more, great tasting. Heirlooms may be more sexy, but dang how can you pass up this kind of vitality?

best tomato ever! 4 people found this helpful

    Rating

If God had made these taste any better, He would have kept them for Himself! This is my first year to plant Whoppers. My only regret is that I wasted some space on some bush tomatoes instead of devoting all my pots to Whoppers.I could not believe the yield! I had bunches of eight tomatoes hanging lile grapes only huge. I had one bunch so heavy it broke the vine! I mainly grow tomatoes for making juice and these are fantastic, full of delicious juice. We had a terrible year for tomatoes everywhere in my neighborhood. It got too hot and too wet but I don't blame the tomatoes. What I did get was really top of the food chain. I'll be planting Whoppers again next year.

I have been geowing these tomaties for 4 years. They have wonderful taste and plants generally produce long season. Started from seed this yesr with great success. The only problem is area farmers use herbicide called dicamba that these tomatoes cannot tolerate. We farm for a living so i am not being anti farmer but this chemical is a type of 2 4 D and it volutizes and goes where it pleaes????.

We started growing Park's Whoppers in the mid 70s in our greenhouse business. bought seed in bulk and always keep them stored in a deep freezer and never had any germination issues even on seed 20+ yrs old. over the last few years i've cut way back on selling and growing and only do around 2000 tomato plants a season now and usually the vast majority of those are the Park's Whopper and Celebrity, both do great in the Southeastern US and are well liked by everyone. i've grown the 'Improved' variety, but i honestly think the original is a better tomato, sadly i just transplanted the last of those so this will be the last season of the original version, not sure if i'll order more of the improved or just stick to all Celebrity, but i have no complaints with the improved, they do make great tomatoes.

Second year of growing the Parks Whopper. Best tomato I have ever grown. We had devastating hail July 24th, the tomatoes were stripped. I had the Whopper beside Early Girls. Big difference in Wilt Resistance - Whopper almost no wilt. The Whoppers came back and produced and the Early Girls did came back somewhat but no production. Have pictures. I have raised Parks Whopper Tomatoes from seed for several years. I tried a different variety last year and was not a happy person. I am raising the Parks Whopper for several reasons. They are excellent producers, they are a good sized tomato, disease resistant and they do not crack after a heavy rain. I grow them on cattle panels with excellent results.

Best taste and yield 4 people found this helpful

    Rating

I have been growing these whoppers for many years, going back to when the magazine "Organic Gardening" released this variety. Simply the best in flavor with just the right amount of acid and the yield is amazing. We give away many bushels. I start in February (in Michigan) under lights and transplant to my greenhouse in late March. Transplant to larger pots about one or two more times before putting them in the garden. Seed germination is excellent-seems like 90+ % We grow about 20-25 plants for family and friends.

I’m a avid grower of many plants but I really enjoy the tomato plant!! I’ve been growing from seed to harvest for about 8 years. I started with just the bio dome seed starter kits and done pretty fair with local chain store brands of tomato seeds (big boy was my preference). I was turned on to Park Seed company about 5 years ago by a friend. He had gave me several buckets of tomatoes due to my harvest wasn’t as good as expected. I liked the fact that the plant was 5/6 foot tall, nice stalk and beautiful fruit!! They ranged from the size of a tennis ball to the size of a soft ball; the skin was really thin, the fruit was very beefy inside and didn’t have a lot of seeds. My friend told me they were perfect for everything!! And boy was he right! We made juice and canned tomatoes with what my friend had gave me and it all was amazing. Very little water after the juice settled ( 5%water ) and the taste was amazing! So the following year I ordered the CR Whopper hybrid tomato seeds and haven’t looked back!! I now have a grow tent that I can start 164 seeds at once and a smaller tent for them to grow until they go outside. I just planted the seeds on 2/24/22 in a grow medium that I put together and also used the CowPots that Parks has available (more amazing products) and on 3/1/22 they started sprouting!! I also have a 1000 watt full spectrum grow light in the tent as well that keeps the temperature at 75/80 degrees at all times. I’ve grown these plants for a few years now and have never been let down by the yield produced by these plants. I also grow several of the other Whopper pepper plants and they are also amazing!! Would I recommend this product? Yes! Will I buy this product again? Absolutely!! And by the way, you always get more seeds than the quantity on the package says. Another plus!! Something I forgot to mention is that I’ve always had a 95/97% germination rate on all Parks products I’ve grown!! Just an amazing company!!

I have grown these for several years. I find everything in the description to be accurate. I always have tomatoes to eat, can and share. I do, however, plant multiple plants so as to have enough to can large batches. The one thing I don't like is that they have very large cores. I have looked at other types of large tomatoes, and find that no one tells the customer this in the product description.

Maybe it was my care of these tomatoes but had blossom end rot and cracking at top. Top was also heavily cored so couldn’t eat top 1/4 of tomato. Also seemed to be mealy when red, perhaps didn’t pick soon enough. Always drip irrigated. Pruned heavy for lots of tomatoes.

A wonderful tomato that cracks badly 0 people found this helpful

    Rating

I grew this tomato from seed and planted it in my front garden bed in full sun. The two plants provided almost two dozen large, red tomatoes. I made sure and watered them regularly, at least two or three times per week in the consistently hot weather in Maryland. They all cracked badly across the top around the stem area. If you look closely at the pictures shown, you can see some cracks in the picture. I would definitely not consider these "crack resistant". I picked some when they were totally green and they ripened on the counter without cracks, but the flavor was not as good.

I planted Park’s Whopper this year for the first time, and I am thrilled with the results. The tomatoes are truly whoppers and the flesh is meaty with small seed pockets—perfect for sandwiches. This will be my go-to slicing tomato from now on.

I have always use ParkSeed tomatoes seeds for over 6 years now. And every year, we love the tomatoes that it produces. This year, I am truly disappointed. I bought a packet of 30 seeds, and planted 15 (which is what I normally do). Out of the 15 seeds only 3 plants emerged. No, it is not the soil, nor lack of moisture. As mentioned, this is not my first rodeo with planting. So this week, I planted the remaining 15 seeds, and praying and hoping that at least another 5 plants appears?!? Truly disappointed. I have been on and off luck with park seeds the past few years. But never an issues with their tomato seeds. This is indeed a real let down.
